Eugenia (Jennie) Barr, Ph.D.

Eugenia (Jennie) Barr, Ph.D. is a licensed marriage and family therapist and supervisor in Texas and California, practicing for over 30 years and specializing in trauma-based issues (i.e., sexual assault) and their impact on the family system. Currently, Dr. Barr is in private practice in Denison, TX and an affiliate with the Austin Family Institute in Austin as an Associate Faculty and Clinical Supervisor. She is an educator in marriage and family therapy and serves as a trainer/consultant for the Office for Victims of Crime, Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) and the Innocent Justice Foundation.

As a former director of the Sexual Assault Prevention and Crisis Services Program at the Office of the Attorney General, which included Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) and Primary Prevention of Sexual Assault Programs, Dr. Barr has extensive expertise in understanding sexual crimes against persons. She has also worked with law enforcement, prosecutors, victim service providers and those involved with sexual assault cases, internet crimes against children (e.g. child pornography), apprehension of sex offender fugitives, and death penalty cases.

When training in the area of sexual assault, Dr. Barr emphasizes the critical importance of using a victim-centered, trauma-informed approach. By teaching those who work with sexual assault victims how this crime impacts them, they are able to support and empower victims through the post-assault process. Dr. Barr emphasizes how a collaborative, victim-centered approach to those impacted by sexual assault may promote healing for victims and their families.
