EVAW International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing effective, victim centered, multi-disciplinary training and expert consultation regarding crimes of sexual assault and domestic violence.  To remain strong and independent, we rely on your support.  As you plan your end-of year charitable donations, we hope that you will consider an investment in justice for violence against women through a gift to EVAW International.

EVAW International is unique in that we are the only multi-disciplinary organization working to end violence against women by improving the criminal justice response so that more sex offenders are held accountable.  Each and every day we receive requests for technical assistance from community professionals as well as survivors who are pleading for justice. Our goal is to train community professionals to respond appropriately to victims, so they get the help they need, while improving the law enforcement investigation and successful prosecution of these crimes.  Just this week, our Executive Director spoke to a rape survivor.  Following their conversation, the survivor sent the following e-mail which we have permission to share with you.

Dear Joanne,

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today about my rape.  I am continuing to process the pain from the attack and then the further attacks from the so-called professionals.

I would be very interested in reading your articles and hearing more about what you do.  I'm glad you're out there helping women in my situation.  It's comforting to know that someone is out there making a difference.

With kind regards.

Just a few of the ways EVAW International works to end violence against women include:

  • From 2004 to 2007, our organization hosted 14 conferences with approximately 2,700 professionals in attendance.  Imagine the countless lives that were touched with the information provided in these conferences.

  • In February 2007 the On-Line Training Institute (OLTI) was launched with the vision to provide cutting-edge training for professionals in the criminal justice and community response to sexual assault.  The goal is to bring state-of-the-art training in criminal justice response to a greater number of professionals across the country, regardless of geography.

  • One of our most exciting projects has been the “Making a Difference” project.  Over the last four years, we have worked with 8 communities in the United States and 7 communities in Canada.  The purpose is to "Make a Difference" by challenging the legal process in both countries to more effectively prosecute sexual offenders.  As part of the MAD project, participating professionals were required to collect extremely detailed data on the characteristics of their agency’s sexual assault caseload.  At this point, data has been provided on over 12,000 sexual assault cases.  The project also has the potential to facilitate reform efforts by revealing any disparities in case processing and outcomes, especially for sexual assault cases that diverge from the cultural stereotype of “real rape.”

Thank you so much.  If you would like to learn more about our work, please visit, www.evawintl.org or call (509) 684-9800.
