Alona Del Rosario
Alona Del Rosario joined EVAWI in January 2016 as an Associate Board Member and now sits on the Public Relations Committee. She is currently a Transitional Housing Specialist at the National Network to End Domestic Violence in Washington, DC. Most recently, Alona was a Senior Policy Associate for the Economic Security for Survivors Project at the Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR). In that role, Alona was responsible for conducting outreach and building partnerships, serving as a liaison between IWPR and policymakers, and providing training and technical assistance designed to increase the capacity of service providers to respond to the economic barriers faced by survivors. Prior to IWPR, she worked as a Public Policy Advocate at the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence (ACESDV) where she advocated for stronger state and federal legislation to protect survivors and increased funding and resources to support survivors and service providers. While at ACESDV, she also worked on a range of issues including intimate partner homicide, paid sick and safe leave, and predatory lending among others, in addition to managing the Economic Justice and Financial Barrier Reduction Projects. Before ACESDV, Alona worked as a Legal Advocate at UMOM New Day Centers’ domestic violence shelter and assisted survivors in seeking safety and legal remedies as they navigated Arizona’s criminal and civil justice systems, and coordinated supportive services for families in emergency shelter. Alona holds a master’s degree in criminal justice from Arizona State University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and criminal justice from Northern Arizona University. She credits Anytown Arizona, a youth leadership development program, for igniting her passion for advocacy and social justice issues.
